The Mackie 1402-VLZ3 14-Channel Mixer is a compact, small-format analog console built for live sound, home studios, and video or broadcast-style production workflows where you need multiple inputs, clean mic gain, and flexible routing in a straightforward desktop footprint.

The Mackie VLZ3 series are the latest in the popular VLZ line of small format mixing consoles. The VLZ3 is an improvement on the favored design with enhanced XDR2 microphone preamplifiers, an ultra-quiet mix bus with improved headroom and a new look.

Inputs, Preamps, and Channel Control

The 1402-VLZ3 features fourteen balanced line inputs and six high quality XDR2 mic preamps. The XDR2 design delivers an impressive 130dB dynamic range with 0 to 60dB gain for strong signal capture with a low noise floor, a practical advantage when working with quieter sources or longer cable runs. XDR2 mic preamps are optimized for 24-bit, 192kHz sample rate recording.

For hands-on mixing, the 1402-VLZ3 uses durable 60mm tapered faders to control Channel, Control Room, and Main Mix levels, making it easier to ride levels during a performance, rehearsal, or recording session.

Routing for Recording, Monitoring, and Mix Flexibility

To support more complex setups, the mixer includes six insert points on mono channels 1-6 for patching in external processors like compressors or EQs. It also includes ALT 3-4 outputs, which provide an alternative to routing signal only to the stereo Main Out. Using the ALT 3-4 and Main outputs simultaneously can provide four bus style routing to multitrack recorders, monitors, and more, which is especially useful for sending separate mixes to recording and speakers at the same time.

Low-Noise Build and Solo Options

All VLZ3 series mixers have more headroom and less distortion thanks to an improved mix bus. Negative Summing results in a quiet output signal with improved gain. The all-steel construction helps reduce noise caused by bad grounding, and connections are automatically grounded on contact.

For quick troubleshooting and cueing, there is switchable Post Fader and Pre Fader SOLO provided on every channel. The AFL/PFL SOLO switch is located in the master section.
