The Evertz 5010 is a full function time code generator and full speed reader designed for professional video and broadcast workflows where accurate, repeatable timing is critical. It generates SMPTE time code locked to NTSC or PAL video, or it can free-run on its internal crystal oscillator for standalone operation. A built-in video character generator with high resolution characters and an on-screen programming menu makes it easy to configure and to insert readable time and user bits directly onto the video raster.
Time Code Generation and Translation
The 5010 generates time code in accordance with SMPTE ST 12-1 and supports jam-sync operation (momentary or continuous) for aligning code to an existing source. It also includes a 25 fps to 29.97 fps drop-frame translator mode, useful when moving between common production and broadcast timing formats.
Reliable Reading and Recovery
For ingest, conform, and archival tasks, the 5010 reads LTC from 1/30th speed up to 70x play speed. Its well proven input circuitry design is intended to recover even severely distorted code, helping maintain usable time reference from challenging sources.
On-Screen Display and Front-Panel Control
Time and user bits can be preset from the front panel, and the character inserter supports three character sizes (8, 16, and 32 lines). Time and user bits are separately positionable on the raster, and an on-screen programming menu provides direct access to setup and operating modes.
Integration and Time/Date Support
For system integration, an RS-232 serial port allows interfacing to computers, and parallel control is provided for commonly used functions. The 5010 can transfer user bits from reader time or user bits. In time/date mode, it can generate and read universal coordinated time (UTC) or local time, encode date/time zone into user bits according to SMPTE ST 309, and perform automatic daylight saving time adjustment. Two general purpose outputs can be assigned to several output modes for flexible interfacing.
