We're excited to kick off the series with Jamie Smith, who is based out of our Las Vegas location.
How long have you been with 4Wall/UsedLighting.com?
I have been with 4Wall/UsedLighting.com for 21 years.
Tell us about a professional success story that you're proud of.
Getting into the lighting industry was purely by accident for me. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life at that time. Once I got into it, it just seemed to be something I was meant to do. I did not follow the steps of a lighting operator, but all of the office-type work I took on just came to me very easily. I will note that my only education is a high school diploma. I feel I have been very successful in my career.
What is your favorite memory working here?
My favorite memory was moving to our new building on 3165 Sunset Rd and finally earning my own office - no more cubicles. I thought I had finally made it!! It's the little things, for me.
Do you have any background in the lighting industry?
For a very brief stint, I worked as a lighting operator with a B circuit band in Canada.
Describe an interesting hobby or pastime that you have.
Gardening & landscaping water-smart plants. In the desert, fruits and vegetables are very hard to make happen, so that has not been successful for me. Plants have been the way to go, and although I love as much color as possible, the desert limits you to water-smart plants.
What is something surprising that not many people know about you?
I wanted to be a corporate lawyer when I first graduated high school.
What is one thing you can't live without?
I can't live without pickles!
What is something that you've always wanted to try or learn?
Interior design - making a space, your home, your own. Zen, which for me, can be whatever style you prefer. I love the details of coordinating colors, accessories, and furniture and incorporating the newest technology.
Tell us about a favorite memory from childhood.
I lived in a very small town in Canada, Kemano. The only way to get there was by boat. Only approximately 35 families lived there. It was very small. I've included a picture below.
